"Adopt-A-Family" Christmas Project
(December and January)
Since 2000, the “Adopt-a-Family” project has fulfilled the needs and wishes of hundreds of disadvantaged families in our community. Members of the organization visit each family individually, distributing presents and spreading the joy of the holidays.
A Toy For Every Child Project
Over the past 39 years, The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana has brought cheer to thousands of families during the holidays the by working with numerous South Florida community organizations to distribute thousands of toys to families in need. What began as a small toy distribution has grown into an afternoon of holiday-themed festivities that children throughout Miami-Dade County look forward to each year. During the annual event, families can feel the true spirit of the holidays with a special visit from Santa Claus, as well as enjoy carnival rides, face painting and more. The Club then visits a variety of schools and community organizations throughout South Florida to drop-off additional toys to children of low-income families.
As part of the “Reyes Magos” (Three Kings) holiday, club members and volunteers keep the Epiphany tradition alive by visiting Hispanic community organizations and tell the story of the Three Kings, followed by the completion of the club’s yearly toy distribution.
Since 1988, the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana has helped build and restore parks in the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County that have provided thousands of children with a safe place to play, including Douglas Park in 1988 and its reconstruction in 2002, AD Barnes Park in 1990, Curtis Park in 1993 and Jose Marti Park in 1995
